ELY SWIMMERS SHINE IN COUNTY CHAMPS

Swimmers from the City of Ely Swimming Club have successfully competed in the County Championships which have taken place over the past month.

The medal winning swimmers included:
Molly Armstrong who achieved a gold medal and a club record in the 1500m freestyle and a bronze medal and a club record in the 800m freestyle.  She also achieved personal bests and reached the finals of the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Kate Stearn earned a silver medal and club record in the 50m freestyle.
Evie Jackson won a silver medal and club record in 50m backstroke and a bronze medal and club record in 200m backstroke.
Jessica Hill took the silver medal in the 400m freestyle and achieved a finals place in the 50m freestyle. Julia Yeates, Billy Jackson, and Alan Gregory achieved club records and personal bests in a number of races but were unlucky to be beaten to the touch for a medal.

Coach Elaine Hill said ”I am very proud of our athletes in the way they have competed and all that they have achieved regardless of somewhat adverse conditions at the Ely Paradise pool that have continued to seriously affect our training schedule.  They have worked hard and deserve this success – they have to face strong competition from huge clubs throughout the county.”
