Audrey's All Gold
- and five new regional records for Ely Swimmer -
Audrey Head (from the City of Ely Swimming Club) competed in five events at the East Region Open Masters Championships on Sunday, won five gold medals and achieved five regional records.
Audrey, of Witchford, competes in the 75-79 year age group. Her record-breaking swims during the competition, held at Bury St Edmunds pool, were for breaststroke and freestyle.
In the 50m breaststroke, Audrey's record breaking time was 1 minute 8.76 seconds, in the 100m breaststroke she beat her own previous best by a whopping 17 seconds (2:25.55) and in the 200m breaststroke Audrey swam the fastest anyone in her age group has in the country so far this year (5:15.75). In the 50m freestyle she achieved a record breaking 1 minute 0.03 seconds, and in the 100m freestyle she set the new regional record of 2:13.71.
Audrey swims for The City of Ely Swimming Club, and has represented Cambridgeshire on many occasions. A nationally qualified judge and timekeeper, Audrey also assists Ely Swimming Club's coach by teaching the younger swimmers.
Elaine Hill, the coach at City of Ely Swimming Club, is justifiably proud of Audrey's achievements: "Audrey always gives 100% in training and is an inspiration to all our swimmers. She is committed to her sport and is proof that hard work and dedication works wonders. I am sure that she will continue to break records and make us proud."
Ely has several Masters swimmers who train with the main squad at the Paradise Pool on Mondays (7.30pm to 9.00pm), Wednesdays (7.00pm to 9.00pm), Thursdays (7.00pm to 8.00pm) and Sunday mornings (8.00am to 10.00am).
