ELY MASTER BREAKS THREE REGIONAL RECORDS
Audrey Head, a Masters Swimmer from City of Ely Swimming Club, broke three East Region records at the recent Inter County Masters competition at Peterborough.

Audrey, of Witchford, competes in the 70-74 age group, and achieved record times in each of her three individual events over 50 metres:  breaststroke (1 min 4.48 sec), freestyle (59.74) and backstroke (1 min 17 sec). The competition ranks swimmers against others in their age groups, and in the over 65's group Audrey is now ranked 10 th fastest in England for breaststroke.

Audrey only took up competitive swimming in her fifties, and has represented Cambridgeshire on many occasions. She has also represented Ely Swimming Club, most recently this summer when she competed with the Club against 16 German teams in an Olympic sized swimming pool in Kempen. Audrey is also a nationally qualified judge and timekeeper and assists Ely Swimming Club's coach by teaching the younger swimmers.

Audrey's coach at City of Ely Swimming Club, Elaine Hill, praises her star swimmer: "Audrey has worked really hard over the last 6 months and her determination has really paid off.   She deserves this recognition."

Chairman Paul Hill commented: "We are delighted for Audrey.   She is an inspiration to all our swimmers, young and old."

Ely has several Masters swimmers who train with the main squad at the Paradise Pool on Mondays (7.30pm to 9.00pm), Wednesdays (7.00pm to 9.00pm), Thursdays (7.00pm to 8.00pm) and Sunday mornings (8.00am to 10.00am).   Swimmers of all ages are welcome.   Just go along to any session for a trial.
