ELY SWIMMERS TRIUMPH IN GERMANY
While all sporting eyes are on Germany for the football, Ely swimmers were celebrating their own success. Competing against 16 German teams in an Olympic sized swimming pool in Kempen, The City of Ely Swimming Club finished 7 th overall, with most swimmers smashing their personal best times.

The team came home with four Bronze ASA awards, five each of Silver and Gold, and one Platinum.

In their age groups, six swimmers came home with medals: Maya Westlake (aged 9), Jessica Hill (13) and Sarah Hardiment (16) all won Silver. Braddan Westlake (10), Mark Thompson (17) and Bastiaan Nooteboom (18) all came third in their age groups and brought home Bronze medals.

Club Chairman Karl Davis commented: "Every two years we send a team to this competition in our twin town of Kempen in Germany. Our swimmers always seem to rise to the challenge and do extremely well - perhaps they are inspired by the Olympic sized pool! We were competing against xx teams, most of which train in 50m pools, so to finish 7th is a real achievement of which the team can be very proud."
